Article: The Arctic Suicides – It’s Not The Dark That Kills You

A very moving article about suicides (especially among young men) in Greenland.
What Quinn called “Cultural Collapse” happened/is happening to the Greenlandic Inuit, and has happened before to all native populations that our culture overran (most famous example probably being the Native Americans).
If you take away someones culture, you’ll drive them into alcoholism, listlessness and suicidal depression. They are expected to change their lifestyle completely within just a few generations, which is extremely hard if your grandparents/parents were heroic hunters living in harmony with nature, and you have to live in an apartment complex, surrounded by concrete, steel and people you don’t know.

The preservation of other cultures is not only important, it is essential to keep their (and our) dignity, because they, in contrast to us, have lived a life that would allow them to live on this planet infinitely (environmental conditions permitting).
We have to understand that only the fewest cultures voluntarily adapt our way of living, and that the vast majority of them has to be forced to change their lifestyle.
