Let’s Start Gardening!

In the end of 2013/beginning of 2014 we started to focus on the garden, which was especially in the beginning a toilsome act.

The earth was red and sticky, so we had to add organic material (compost, palm fiber, straw) to create a good layer of topsoil. In the beginning, the vegetables were already very delicious – because they were grown without chemicals – but the plants themselves got not very big. We grew mostly local varieties and wild vegetables, which can thrive even in poor soils.

We started with a focus on the front part of the garden (where the adobe houses are), then worked on the middle (where we built the canteen and keep chicken and ducks), and finally we started with the last third in the back (where Dave’s house stands and we cultivate plants that don’t require daily care).
