Article: Global Fisheries Are Collapsing
Most of us tend not to think about the oceans too much, since it is ‘just water with some fish in it’. But the oceans make up over 70% of this planet’s surface, and they are a crucial part of the ecosystem that keeps us and millions of other species alive.
If the oceans collapse, globalized civilization will follow in the blink of an eye.
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, 85 percent of global fish stocks are “overexploited, depleted, or recovering from depletion”. The populations of all large predator fish in the oceans have declined by 90 percent in the 50 years.
Even Forbes Magazine wrote that “Capitalism will starve humanity” by 2050 as a result of overfishing, since over 3 billion people depend on protein from fish.
This article summarizes all problems there are with the oceans and gives you a good idea of the urgency of this problem.
